Sacre Coeur (Sacred Heart Church) was as majestic as I remember. It has been said that it is the most photographed place in Paris beating the Eiffel Tower. With my heavy luggage, I walked up the steps leading to the front of the church, just as the instructions said. There were a lot of tourists and passers by; it was difficult to try to find Kerwin or Kyle or whoever was going to meet me. I had no idea what would happen next.

I stood tall trying to be noticeable (as if my luggage wasn't odd enough). It was very cold but the spectacular view of the city was keeping me warm and giddy. Who is going to meet me here? Could he see me standing here? I waited for another 10 minutes and walked around the front of the church. Am I in the wrong spot? As I was formulating a 'Plan B' in my head, I saw a familiar figure walking from the right side of the church. It was Kerwin! He was walking as if looking for someone one, he obviously did not see me. I was so excited to see him, but not too happy to see that he was alone.

"Pangit!" I joked in my native Filipino trying to get his attention. He turned towards me and gave me a big warm hug. "I can't believe I'm here!" I said with a smile. "You made it! I'm so happy to see you!" He answered. I had so many questions to ask him, but before I could begin he said with a suspicious grin "Ok Jamie, stay right here" and walked away.

By this time, my hopes were raised thinking that he must be getting Kyle. I stayed put and played along. As I watched Kerwin walk away…I saw a person that resembled Kyle run and hide behind the back of the Church. Ah-ha! I was certain it was him - he was still trying to keep the surprise. It was so adorable.

I waited another 10 minutes until Kyle finally walked up to me from behind. I turned and gave him a nice long hug and a sweet kiss. I was so excited to be in Paris with him. "Happy Anniversary baby" he whispered. I answered "They said you were in Seattle! I thought you were playing pool with the guys Wednesday night - I can't believe you're already here - when did you leave Seattle? I didn't even notice you were gone - I'm such a bad girlfriend!"

He was laughing while I was rambling on and on with all my questions. Without answering any of them, he took my hand and walked towards the center of Sacre Couer. I had a suspicion of what he was going to do next but still asked in awe "Are you gonna do something crazy?" He kneeled on one knee and took a little box from his pocket. "Jamie" he began, "Will you marry me?" It was short and sweet. He didn't need a long speech of his undying love. The fact that I was standing on top of the most romantic city on earth with Kyle was so much more incredible. I cupped my hands in his face and answered "Of course I'll marry you!" He put the sparkly ring on my finger and we took a quiet moment looking at it. We were engaged.
